Dr. Ellen Maurer Zilioli


Born in 1956. Studied art history, history and anthropology at Munich and Basel Universities, taking her MA in 1984. From 1987–1990 lived in Berlin, where she organised the International Hannah Höch Symposium in 1989. She took her doctorate at Munich University in 1991 (dissertation: "Jenseits fester Grenzen. Das malerische Werk von Hannah Höch").
Between 1993–1995 assistant at the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen, the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung, the Neue Sammlung and the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum. In 1996 taught at Passau University. 1996–1998 Academic employee of the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen. Organised the exhibition 'Die Expressionismus-Sammlung Lothar Günther Buchheim' at Haus der Kunst, Munich (jointly with Clelia Segieth). At the same time (1996–1998) academic employee of the Neue Sammlung, State Museum of Applied Arts and Design, Munich. 1999 Married Claudio Zilioli. From 1998–2005 curator at the Neue Sammlung, Design in der Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich. 2000–2005 Member of the Council of the Deutschlandportal of the Federal Republic of Germany. Member of the "Costituenda Fondazione Bruno Martinazzi", Turin.
Since 2005 living in Italy and Germany as a free lance curator, author, art consultant, representing international fine arts and jewellery arts. Since 2008 president of the Cultural Association Maurer Zilioli – Contemporary Arts in Brescia, with the purpose to accelerate the "Kulturtransfer" – the cultural exchange of contemporary subjects between south and north, between Italy and the countries north of the Alps.
2008 organization of the International Jewellery Symposium "Here we are", Palazzo Vecchio, Florence, Italy, and the jewellery exhibition "New Play in Art – Il Gioiello Inaspettato" at the Botanic Garden André Heller, Gardone/Riviera on the Lake of Garda. Co-curator of the Bruno Martinazzi Retrospective, Palazzo Pitti, Florence, Palazzo Bricherasio, Turin and Museum of Applied Arts, Frankfurt. 2010 curator and organizer of the travelling exhibition of Norman Weber (Hanau, munich, Brescia, Schwäbisch Gmünd) and of his publication. 2011 curator of the exhibition "Bruno Martinazzi. Memory Maps." Neues Museum Nürnberg amongst others. 2013 exhibition of Issey Miyake and Ulla + Martin Kaufmann in Mantua / Italy. In preparation: exhibitions 2014/2015 of German painter Annette Lucks in Schwäbisch Hall and Regensburg. Exhibitions, projects and publications in Italy and abroad.
